Inkululeko is a non-profit NGO based in South Africa which hopes to allay the continued effects of apartheid on township youth, who are primarily people of color. There is still a large amount of inequality in South Africa, which negatively impacts its citizens on a structural level. There is a continued lack of equal access to necessary resources; the affluent white minority has more opportunities than the black majority. Inkululeko specifically tackles education inequality in South Africa by providing free tutoring, textbooks, business skills workshops, transportation, high-speed internet, and access to technology. To quote Jason Torreano, the founder of Inkululeko: “We work to level the playing field.”

In order to increase the visibility of Inkululeko’s services we collaborated to create two videos detailing Inkululeko’s commitment to their mission and to their learners.

The first video focused on the psychosocial aspects of Inkululeko’s work, in which they strive for a holistic growth within the learners. Inkululeko does more than provide an education; they instill a sense of confidence and motivation within their learners, thus challenging the low expectations that have been placed on them their entire life.

The second video focuses on the context in which Inkululeko exists; specifically, their significance in a post-apartheid – but still deeply divided – South Africa.
